Racial Construction and Gender Inequality
Racial Construction is the belief that white is the superior race, and other races aren't capable of achieving what the white race achieves.
Gender inequality is the unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender.
Thesis: Ironically, in Plum Bun: A Novel Without a Moral, Jessie Fauset creates a message about the uselessness nature of racial construction in the United States through playing society like a game; her novels moral foreshadows later Civil Rights movements, illustrated by posters such as "I am a black woman."
In the novel Plum Bun: A Story Without a Moral, the main character Angela pretends to be white in order to avoid racial discrimination. She knew that this would make her life easier, but she faces gender discrimination instead. She shows that racial construction is useless in society by living her life as if it was a game. Angela broke the rules of society when she played this game, which foreshadowed later Civil Rights Movements, which is illustrated by my artifact.
